The 9 Best Home Brewing Kits for Beginners
When I write reviewing the “best” home brewing beginner kits, it’s simply judged by the amount of positive feedback they have received among the buyers. Amazon is great for this, since any buyer can write a review and rate it 1 to 5 stars to give other potential buyers a clear view of how good the product is.
Some kits have been reviewed more than others, so make sure you actively search for kits where the customer reviews are more positive than negative, to make sure the kit you buy isn’t in bad quality, or maybe even a scam.
Below you’ll find reviews of the different kits I’ve found, starting from my favorite one.
#1 My Personal Choice of Home Brewing Kit
As a beginner, any of the mentioned kits will work just fine. However the kits are different in terms of the price and what is included.
Personally I’m a rational buyer, so I’d go for the kit that has the most quality equipment included for the price. So My personal pick would be the Northern Brewer Brew-Share-Enjoy Homebrew Starter Kit (Amazon link).
All you need is an ingredient kit and some bottles, where you can freely choose any beer and bottle type you’d like.
If you are very uncertain about whether home brewing is for you, you can simply go for the cheap Mr. Beer kit which is extremely easy to use and is also very cheap.

A quality kit from Northern Brewer with great tools to make your own homemade beer. This kit is one of the highest-rated kits, with tremendous customer satisfaction. It is a big step-up in terms of quality compared to the Mr. beer kit, for example.
This kit can brew up to 5 gallons of beer at a time and is compatible with all beer recipes. Comes with 1 free choice of recipe kit which can be either Block Party Amber Ale, Chinook IPA or Hank’s Hefeweizen.
It comes with a quality stainless steel brew kettle, which for the price is extremely satisfying.
TIP: As a rule of thumb, the 5 Gallon sets are generally higher quality than 2 or 1 gallons, and will last for a longer time. It might be worth spend a bit more if you want higher value for your money.
It does not come with bottles but comes with a bottle capper and red bottle caps.

Yet another Northern Brewer beer kit, these guys really do dominate the online homebrewing segment.
But it’s probably for good reason, all their recipe kits and beer kits have outstanding reviews, but this kit is actually relatively new, and doesn’t have a whole lot of reviews yet.
TIP: It might be worth waiting until more reviews are published, so the rating becomes more relevant. Number of reviews when this post was published: 4.
That being said, by simply looking at the specs of this kit, it seems to be on par with any other northern brewer set, and comes with some nice extra equipment.
It also comes with something very unique in terms of beer kits, which is a wort chiller. A wort chiller is a great tool for easy, fast and accurate cooling of your wort.
The kit is obviously pricey granted these more quality equipment utensils, but if the reputation of northern brewer kits stands with this kit, it is most likely worth every penny.

This kit is labeled as very easy to use, and suited specifically for beginners, but can be used by home brewers on any level.
There is one downside as I looked at the store page for this kit, and that’s the supply of the kit. It seems to be often out of stock.
You need to acquire a kettle, bottles, bottle caps and ingredients yourself, other than that all you need to make your own beer is included in this kit.

The kit has almost everything you need in terms of equipment, and all you need to supply yourself is a 4 to 5 gallon kettle, ingredients or ingredient kit and some bottles. The kit will provide you with 5 gallons of beer and is compatible with any beer recipe kit.
NOTE: Some users complain about the lid of the bucket not being 100% airtight. So make sure you close the lid airtight, and possibly test it, if you end up buying this kit.

This kit is one of the few beer kits that are actually made by a brewery. Coopers brewery has been brewing beer for over 150 years and is the world’s largest manufacturer of home brew kits.
Many parts used in some of the other kits on this list are actually made by these guys.
The kit comes with an ingredient kit, that is also made by Coopers brewery from scratch.
TIP: If you want authentic beer bottles, you should buy bottles and bottle caps yourself, as this kit comes only with screw cap bottles.
All in all a very nice kit for beginner homebrewers, which has everything you need to make your first batch of beer!

Alright it’s time to get a bit more serious.
This kit will make sure you release your inner brew master granted the advanced equipment it comes with compared to the other kits I’ve reviewed so far. The downside of this kit is the low amount of reviews I could find, so it might be wise to collect some more.
NOTE: I have noticed that this kit is hardly available, so if you want to go for it, it might be a good idea to contact the company.
This kit adapts the kegging method which is a way to carbonate beer very fast and effectively while maintaining the great taste. Using kegging you can carbonate beer in a matter of days, compared to weeks when normally carbonating your beer.
The kit makes 5 gallons of beer at a time, and comes with everything except bottles and ingredients.

I was debating whether or not to include this in the list, since it isn’t really a kit. It is a bit controversial in the homebrewing world, this “kit” is actually an automated brewer, that makes beer by simply pushing a button.
If you want to get into homebrewing for the reason most homebrewers do, this product is NOT for you.
It makes the process of brewing very simplified, to the point where you don’t have to actually do anything yourself other than watching a display.
It will send you notifications on how your brew is doing, and tell you exactly what to do if anything should go wrong.
The ingredient kits included are called “BrewPrints” which i would probably compare to instant-coffee. It is a very fast and easy way to make your own beer for sure, but it is not exactly traditional home brewing.
