Because we know you might have different needs than we do, we also came up with a list where we picked another 6 great propane burners for different types of brewers.
So, be sure to check our list and hopefully it will help you find the nice and perfect burner you are looking for.
Why Having A Propane Burner?
Whether you know your way around brewing or you are a newcomer, you might have an idea of how important an efficient source of heat can be.
NOTE: boiling on your home stove is not a good idea.
Boiling a small-medium size batch (up to 10 gallons) can take hours if not using the right equipment. If you, like 99% of us, want to enjoy a faster and more efficient boiling process, then you will need a powerful and reliable burner.
There are plenty of options out there, and for the price they come, it will be a no-brainer for you. Boiling your wort is a vital step on the brewing process, so let’s make sure it’s done as right as it gets.
See the propane burner as a broader investment, as you can also use it for outdoor frying, seafood boils, and all your outdoor cooking.
How to Choose A Propane Burner?
When buying a propane burner we recommend considering these three variables:
- Batch size
If you only need the burner to brew small-medium batches (5-10 gallons), it will be enough with almost all the options on the list.
That said, we always recommend aiming for sturdier options if you brew bigger batches regularly.
TIP: Spending a few extra dollars for a more solidly constructed unit will end up saving you money in the long term. Trust us on this one.
- Power
Would it make sense to buy an iPhone 11 pro only for emergency calls? The same applies here. Don’t go overboard with heat power, as you might even end up burning your equipment.
If you only need a burner to boil small batches and/or regular cooking, it would be enough with 65000 to 100000 BTU.
For bigger batches and deep-fried turkey, for example, aim for something about 150000-200000 BTU.
- Your budget
When buying anything, this is the first advice we give to everybody: set up a budget and stick to it.
Once we know how much we are going to brew, and how much power we really need, we are ready to decide which units are the ones that suit best our needs.
We have seen it many times: people going crazy and spending so much money on the best equipment when it would be good to go with a 200 bucks set. And we don’t want that for you.
So, remember to set up your budget according to your needs and try to stick to it.
5 Things You Should Know When Buying Propane Burner For Brewing
1. Make sure to check the hose for leaks before lighting.
Better to be safe than sorry right?
We recommend using soapy water to check for leaks before lighting your burner up and make sure everything is alright.
2. The first use will burn the paint/finish off
All the units on the list will peel off the finish on the first run.
Some more, some less, but it’s inevitable and it will happen to you as well.
3. Use it first outside to avoid smoke smell in your house.
Because the paint is burning the first time you use your new unit, we recommend using it outside to avoid that unpleasant smell of burnt plastic inside your house.
That said, we recommend using all these units outdoors to ensure safety.
4. Use a cover if stored outside.
Propane does not work well under extremely cold temperatures.
Therefore, it might be a good practice to use a warm cover to store your burner.
REMEMBER: If ice starts to form on any of the components, performance will be compromised.
5. Allow oxygen to produce a blue flame
Flame color meaning can be indicative of temperature or the completeness of combustion. For example, blue flame is the hottest followed by yellow, then orange and red.
Therefore, we should be aiming for that nice blue color, not only for better performance but also for gas saving.
To do that, be sure to allow the right amount of oxygen through the throat of the cast.

We were quite impressed by how solidly constructed this thing was; it feels sturdy and can hold weight with no problem.
Setting this burner up is very fast (less than 5 min), and it comes with all you need to start off heating your batch.

Arguably the best on the lower end of the budget, this burner has all you need for brewing at home.
The thick steel makes this unit very sturdy, and able to hold a decent amount of weight with no problem. On top of its solid construction, the burner comes with a set of legs that you can lift up to 30 inches, which makes it super convenient as you don’t need to find a base to put the thing on.
Another feature we liked was the balanced heat distribution, which made it easier to control the temperature.
Downsides? Although stable, the legs feel a bit fragile. Only time will tell.
To round-up, this unit is probably the best rounded of all the burners of this list. And it comes at a fair price!

3. Great For Windy Weather
Price Range: $$
Homebrew Rating: 3,5/5

- Weight: 19,6 lb
- 54,000 BTU Cast Burner

- (1x) Attachable legs
- (1x) Removable windshield
- (1x) Listed LP hose and regulator with Type 1 Connection
- (1x) Cooking thermometer
- (1x) Instruction/Recipe Booklet
Yet another solid option for mid-sized brewing batches.
This burner comes with adjustable legs that we particularly like. The height is perfect so an average-sized person doesn’t need to bend when cooking.
Also, the unit delivers a good amount of heat, feels sturdy and the base is very solid. On top of that, the windshield works very efficiently, which is really appreciated if cooking outdoors.
On the downside, we found two potential safety issues.
First of all, we found that the hose attachment might be too short, as it’s exactly the same size as the manufacturer’s recommended distance between the fuel and the burner.
Secondly, the knob has no friction at all, which makes it very sensitive to contact. It’s very likely that just by passing by you turn it on full blast, which can get dangerous if you don’t notice on time.
Despite its downsides, this burner is another good option, and at a competitive price.
PROS | CONS |
Adjustable legs for no bending | Hose attachment too short |
Wind protection | Large gap on the surface that holds cooking |
Solid base | No friction in the knob |
High heat | |
Adjustable legs |

Another sturdy item that will do the job.
You can certainly see the difference in price with this unit. The burner feels incredibly solid, ready to go under tough situations. This item is one of the first where you can fry turkey with no problem, due to its great heating power.
Although pricer than the ones before on this list, this burner will give you longer durability that will result in saving money in the long term.
One of the main cons is the lack of legs. You can buy them separately, but it would have been nice to have them included.
Although it didn’t cause major problems, the wind protection could have been better.
Overall, this is one of our favorite picks on the list, due to its excellent quality-price ratio.

- (x1) Hose (4-foot)
We picked this burner because we were attracted by the design. Overall, the features are similar to the previous units on the list, but if you like to stand out, this red colored burner might fit your needs.
On the bright side, we have a solid burner, delivering a decent amount of heat. The product feels pretty solid and well constructed.
What we liked the most about this item was the ease when adjusting the flames.
On the downs side, we don’t quite understand why the burner is so far below the frame. The heat won’t get to the pot unless you make a modification.
Also, the protection against wind could be improvable at the very least. In addition to that, the frame feels a bit fragile, and we are not sure how it will perform over time.
In our opinion, unless you really like to have a colored burner, there are better options on the list.
PROS | CONS |
Design | Burner placement |
Solid | Wind sensitive |
Powerful | Lightweight frame |
Flames easily adjustable | |

This kit is the premium one in terms of price. It’s basically the same model as number #6 on the list, but comes with legs and a cover.
Objectively, this is the highest quality burner on the list. But it’s the most expensive one of the list as well.
If you want to brew small to medium amounts, you have cheaper options on the list. But if you want an outdoor burner that will last for many years, this kit is an excellent option. And it comes with a cover and legs, which is very convenient.

Conclusion
That was quite a ride!
If you have read all the reviews, you will notice that all the models are great in terms of practicality, and your final decision will depend on your needs.
- Therefore, if you are looking for a cheap burner that will do the job on small-medium batches, we would recommend you go for the GasOne Portable Propane 100, 000-BTU with Adjustable Legs (Amazon link).
- However, if you don’t mind spending a bit more for more powerful and long-lasting burners, we recommend the GasOne 200, 000 BTU Square Heavy- Duty Single Burner.
As you may know if you have been reading us, we like cheap stuff, but we also tend to think long term. That is why it makes sense for us to go for a sturdier and more powerful unit, although pricier.
REMEMBER: Find out what you really need and spend accordingly
We hope this post can help you make a good choice.
Stay tuned for more posts.
Cheers!
